Once the download is finished, SKIF will prompt about installing it.
If there’s a new version available it will automatically be downloaded (~10 MB) in the background. Change Check for updates to Special K to Discord (updates regularly). Launch the Special K Injection Frontend (SKIF.exe). It’s also possible to opt-in to this version from the stable version: The latest experimental versions can be found over on the Discord server, where all active development and releases occurs. This version is often dated by a few months, so if you run into any issues try using the experimental version as the issue might’ve been changed in that one. Use the following link to download a stable version of Special K. You may lose UI text.Special K has two different versions: a “stable” version that gets updated every 6 months or so, as well as a more experimental version where new features and fixes are introduced before being included in the next stable version. Again, I should note that editing this texture will probably also result in changes elsewhere in the game. I just erased everything so it's nothing but a blank transparent slate and re-exported it. Open this texture up in GIMP or Photoshop and edit as you see fit. It just so happens in my texture dump folder I have a texture called Uncompressed_7E307928.dds, and it just so happens to contain text symbols. It's selected, and all the location names on the map are blinking as a result (which I can't really screenshot well). As you can see in the following screenshot the top texture in the list is 7e307928. These are the same names textures are dumped as. The random gibberish are your texture names.
In the Live Texture View there's a scrolling menu right under the 'Refresh Textures' button. The left panel is the Live Shader View, and the right panel is the Live Texture View. If you forgot to change the ini settings earlier you will almost certainly get a warning about the game not properly tracking texture memory, and a ton of textures will fail to appear in this GUI.Īssuming everything's going smoothly so far, you probably have a lot of blinking textures on your screen now.

Click on the red Render Mod Tools button. Open the SpecialK GUI and scroll to the Direct3D 11 Settings dropdown. Reportedly there are a lot of objects that do exactly that in this game. Keep in mind that editing these textures may result in undesired changes to other game objects that share any of these textures. Eugh! Too busy! For funsies let's get rid of all the icons, text, and ant trails. So first things first, open the world map. For the purposes of this guide we're going to hide everything on the world map but the background texture. Load up a save and hunt down the textures you're interested in.
